Supporting Wildlife and Students: Lincoln High School Duck House Project

Aug 31, 2025

The Industrial Arts Class at Lincoln High School in Alma Center, Wisconsin has taken on a special project this year that benefits both students and the community. Under the guidance of their instructor, students put their woodworking skills to the test by designing and building wood duck houses – sturdy nesting boxes that help support local waterfowl populations.

These houses are more than just a class project. They provide a safe place for wood ducks and other cavity-nesting birds to raise their young. Each house is carefully crafted from solid wood, with an entry hole sized for wood ducks and an interior mesh ladder to help ducklings climb out when it’s time to leave the nest. Built to last, they can be mounted on trees or poles near ponds, creeks, and wetlands.

In total, the class has built 20 duck houses, but only 10 are available to the public. To encourage more wildlife conservation, the houses are being offered at two price levels:

  • $35 each if you plan to place the house on private property
  • FREE if the house will be installed on public land, such as lakes, rivers, creeks, or marsh areas

This project not only gives students real-world experience in woodworking and craftsmanship, but it also directly supports conservation efforts in our region. By purchasing (or installing) a duck house, you’re helping both local wildlife and the next generation of skilled students.

If you’d like to reserve one of these duck houses, please reach out soon — quantities are limited. Together, we can encourage more ducks to thrive in our local wetlands while celebrating the hard work of the students at Lincoln High School.
