In a show of community spirit and gratitude, President Max Young of the North Branch Humbird Rod and Gun Club presented a generous $8,000 donation to Fire Chief Kevin Forsting of County Line Fire & Rescue on Tuesday. The funds were raised during the club’s annual Ice or No-Ice Fishing Contest, held March 8th on Emerson Lake in Humbird.

The event, which has become a beloved local tradition, drew anglers and families from around the region — late-winter conditions were much better than expected. This year’s contest proved especially successful, thanks in large part to the dedication and support of local businesses and the County Line Fire & Rescue volunteers.

“Our local fire and rescue team played a huge part in making this year’s contest a success,” said President Young during the check presentation. “We firmly believe that by coming together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us. Through charitable events, fundraisers, and volunteering, we lend a helping hand to various local causes, ensuring that our communities thrives both socially and economically.”

The $8,000 donation will support County Line Fire & Rescue’s continued efforts to provide lifesaving services to residents across the region. Chief Forsting expressed his appreciation, noting that the funds will help with equipment upgrades and training for volunteers.

Community members say the collaboration between the Rod and Gun Club, and the fire department highlights the best of small-town values: teamwork, generosity, and a shared commitment to public safety.

The club plans to continue its tradition of charitable giving, using outdoor events like the Ice or No-Ice Fishing Contest to continue making a positive impact for years to come.
