ICE or NO-ICE FISHING CONTEST

Call ice-fishing enthusiasts! Mark your calendars for March 9th because the annual North Branch Rod and Gun Club Ice-or-No-Ice Fishing Contest is back, and it’s promising more frigid fun than a penguin family reunion in Wisconsin! On March 9th, 2024, from 12 PM to 3 PM, the ice (or lack thereof) on Emerson Lake Road in Humbird will be the stage for a frosty ice-fishing showdown.

This year’s competition has a dazzling array of prizes that could thaw even the coldest hearts. The grand prize? A .22 rifle for each fish category of bluegill, crappie, and perch. That’s right, each angler whose patience and fish whispering skills reels in the largest fish for a category will be going home with a new rifle slung over their shoulder .

If you’re not aiming for the rifle, fear not! Second place will bag you $25, while third place secures a cool $15. But wait, there’s more! The door prizes are pouring in faster than hot cocoa on a chilly day. Plus young and aspiring ice-anglers under 12 and under are guaranteed a prize, even if their catch is smaller than a minnow on a diet. It’s never too early to start building a dynasty of ice-fishing legends!

But what’s a fishing contest without some creature comforts, right?. There will be Hot lunch, hot beverages available. Plus for the over 21 crowd, there’s beer to keep things toasty. Soda is, of course, available for those who prefer their bubbles without the buzz. And for the folks who forgot to pack their lucky worm-repelling socks or need an extra jig or two, don’t fret. Bait will be available onsite.

All the fun and frosty proceeds are heading to support the Alma Center Fire District and the North Branch Rod and Gun Club.
